Removable Neck

All my handmade basses feature a simple and strong removable and adjustable neck system.  Also, I can convert just about any double bass, new or old, to an adjustable/removable system.

My system allows almost instant adjustment of string height, with only minor re-tuning. Half a turn of the bolt results in 2-3mm change in string height without changing the pressure on the top - unlike the effect of using adjuster wheels! It also allows for dis-assembly of the bass and neck for safer transport or maintenance.

There is NO detriment to sound or looks using such a system, in fact many players believe that the sound is improved with such a solid contact between neck and block.

Bolt-on neck conversion

The following pictures illustrate part of the process of converting a double bass with glued-in neck to one with a bolt-in adjustable "travel" neck.

The processes include cutting out the original neck, rebuilding the mortise, drilling the bolt hole into heel, attaching the captive nut to the block through the FF holes, fitting a decorative ebony collar and revarnishing the heel.
