Removable Neck
All my handmade basses feature a simple and strong removable neck system for travel. There is NO detriment to sound or looks using such a system, in fact many people believe that the sound is improved with such a solid contact between neck and block.
Also, I can convert just about any double bass, new or old, to a virtually invisible removable neck joint.
Removable neck conversion
The following pictures illustrate the process of converting a double bass with glued-in neck to one with a bolt-in "travel" neck. The processes include cutting out the original neck, rebuilding the mortise, drilling the heel, attaching the captive nut, fitting the magnetic plug and revarnishing the heel.
