1920 Hawkes Concert double bass

This is a grand old instrument with a huge dark voice, consistent with its deep ribs, steep round back and generous top arching. The model is derived from the well-known Panormo model with extremely wide upper bout. However the back is nicely canted in the upper part which - with the modern overstand - allows comfortable access to the higher positions. String length is a comfortable 41.5".

This is overwhelmingly an orchestral bass, with a massive sound, yet is still capable of a wide dynamic range. What wouldn't you give to have this as your musical partner?!!
