Cliff’s Bass
Previously loved by the legendary Sydney bassist, the late Cliff Barnett .

This beautiful bass made around the 1920’s was purchased in England in the early 1950’s and Cliff brought it back with him when he returned to Australian shores in 1955. Cliff knocked back a place in the band of the great English reed man Tubby Hayes to return to his homeland.
Upon arrival Cliff was snapped up by many groups in Sydney including The AJQ (Australian Jazz Quintet), Don Burrows, Pat Caplice, George Golla, Gus Merzi, Lucy Brown, Kenny Morrow, Frank Smith, Graeme Bell, Bob Barnard to name a few.
Cliff was a regular bassist on TV shows and venues such as Joe’s Corinthian room, Chequers night club, and the legendary El Rocco. Cliff also played with touring artists such as Mel Torme, Mark Murphy, Plaz Johnson and many more.
The Bass has been kept in excellent playing condition by the family since Cliff left us and now it’s time for it to be heard again.
